Foundation Board updates bylaws, expands mission

The Mississippi Press Foundation has updated its bylaws to better reflect the organization’s evolving mission and the changing needs of Mississippi’s news industry. The amendments formally change the organization’s name to the Mississippi Press Foundation and broaden its mission beyond traditional educational programs to include support for the sustainability, professional development and innovation of local journalism.

The Foundation board ratified the amendments at its meeting Aug. 14.

The revised bylaws also broaden opportunities for Foundation leadership, allowing qualified individuals from higher education and the private sector to serve on the Board. Other changes clarify proxy voting and eligibility for retired past presidents and remove outdated references.

The changes position the Foundation to pursue a broader range of partnerships, programs and funding opportunities in support of a strong and sustainable future for local news in Mississippi.
