The Reflector at Mississippi State and The Radionian at Jones College were awarded General Excellence in collegiate media on March 26 during the annual O.C. McDavid Journalism Summit in Ridgeland, hosted by the Mississippi Press Foundation.

About 40 student journalists and faculty attended the event, which featured presentations by the staff of the Roy Howard Community Journalism Center at Southern Miss, a discussion of the influence of civil rights activist Fannie Lou Hamer, and a keynote by Mississippi Today Editor-in-Chief Emily Wagster Pettus.

“This program is always one of our favorite professional days of the year,” said Mississippi Press Foundation Vice Chairman George R. Turner of The Greene County Herald in Leakesville and The Richton Dispatch. “The work of these students is very impressive and inspiring.”
